This five-week sprint covered the definition, design and execution of seven griddle tools, built to expand upon the Solo Griddle designed at Smart. Tools designed were a spatula, basting tin, clip light, scoop tongs, rings, bottles and a tool caddy. This holistic project touched upon user experience, ergonomics, mechanics, materials, CMF and branding elements across each individual tool. Resulting deliverable encompassed factory ready design CAD, 3D printed models, CMF documentation and visual assets for marketing purposes.

DESIGNING A FAMILY OF PRODUCTS
Building upon the success of the Solo Griddle platform, this specialized tool suite uses a systemized design approach to create functional harmony for the hot plate enthusiast.

Meaningful connections
Moving components including an integrated home-base, a place to both mechanically align parts and visually indicate their state to users.
Holistic ecosystem
Fine tuning geometry across products to relate back to the Solo Griddle and improve functionality, ultimately creating a clear family suite of products.
Visually directive
Leveraging color as an intuitive yet subdued method to intuitively communicate product state (ie orange band showcases bottles are open)

Initial ideation
Establishing key interactions drives the bounding box for design of these tools while translating VBL guidelines previously established in the griddle.
Rapid prototype and testing
Creating full scale prototypes provides dimensionality, grounding and rapid validation. Testing elements like scoop geometry establishes key product gesture.

CAD development
Creating design CAD helps communicate design intent before stress testing feasibility of manufacturing.
